July 2009 .............

Lansing: We visited Lansing while the coach was at Spartan getting some work done. The closed Oldsmobile plant is the first thing we saw as we entered town. It's huge and starting to look like facilities do that sit vacant. There are many other empty buildings and we saw another huge factory that was empty but don't know what it was.
The Capitol building is beautiful, the city was named the state capitol in 1847 so the building was constructed sometime in that time frame. It was restored in 1992.There is a glass-floor rotunda and acres of decorative hand painted surfaces.
The town has the oldest operating farmers market and a historic old town. Hopefully that part of the country will soon start a recovery process that will change the unemployment figures and start to rebuild.
