April 2005 ...........

Fredericksburg: One of the most popular tourist towns in Texas, the main street is full of quaint shops. The town was founded in 1846 by German settlers, and over 150 years later their influence is still evident. The buildings with two story balconies, the Victorian gingerbread, and the older log buildings scattered throughout the town remind us of the German settlers. The beautiful churches with their massive steeples are something to see. Fredericksburg is 70 miles West of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. The Hill Country is beautiful any time of the year, but in the spring when the Bluebonnets and other wild flowers are blooming it's spectacular. We have been there several times and will continue to go back any chance we get.

April 2005 ...........

Wildseed Farm: Seven miles east of town on Highway 290E. The farm has 200 acres of wildflowers and is the nations largest working wildflower farm. It is also one of the largest live plant nurseries in the hill country. There is a gift shop and a shop to purchase specialty foods and refreshments. For a $4. fee one can visit the Butterfly Haus and walk out where they grow the flowers. The photos below were taken at the farm in April 2005. April 2005 ...........

Willow City Loop: This drive provides magnificent views of the Hill Country, however the drive is spectacular when the bluebonnets are in bloom. The road is on private property, it goes through several ranches and the route is posted that you should not park or get out of your vehicle. There are several pull outs where people do stop for photos, but we understood someone was either given a ticket or a warning the day we were there. There are maps you can get to show you the loop. It's a trip worth taking if the Bluebonnets are in bloom.
