St Cloud - Virginia Clemens and Munsinger Gardens: The Clemens Gardens were started in 1990 by Bill Clemens when he purchased land across from his home and created a rose garden of 1,000 roses for his wife. He donated the land to the city of St Cloud, hired a full-time rose gardener, and endowed a $1 million trust fund to take care of the garden. His wife suffered from MS and she watched the gardens take shape from her home. The garden was expanded into five additional side-by-side gardens on seven acres. The preserve is now a two block long garden across from the Munsinger Gardens, which are on the banks of the Mississippi River. The two gardens together include about 18,000 plants and flowers. Together they are considered one of the finest municipal gardens in the nation. The Munsinger Garden is comprised of 14 acres, is primarily a shade garden and is part of the Riverside Park. There are many fountains, ponds, benches and walkways in both parks. When in St Cloud these gardens are a "must see". Admittance is free, take bug spray, and your camera.
