Wilson KS: "Chec Capitol of Kansas", it was a Butterfield Express Station in 1865 and a Union Pacific Station in 1868. There are more than two dozen limestone buildings in the town which is only five miles from Lake Wilson, that is called the cleanest lake in Kansas. The hotel pictures below is the Midland Railroad Hotel, built in 1899, damaged by fire in 1902, and considered in the early 1900's to be one of the finest hotels in Kansas. After being vacant for 10 years it was modernized and reopened in 2003. It was one of the movie sets in the 1972 movie Paper Moon. They have a restaurant that offers a Sunday brunch. We drove from Russell one Sunday for the brunch and weren't real impressed. The building, however is really neat.
