January 2005 .............

Palm Canyon: From Palm Springs, take a short dirve to the Indian Canyons. We met Ross & Carol Wilkinson, had a good catch up lunch, we hadn't seen them for over a year, then drove up to Palm Canyon and took a short hike. There are several trails, some easy and short and some difficult, we chose short and easy, couldn't get to some places because of the water running through the canyon. As every other place in the southwest water was a major problem. In Plam Springs several of the major roads were washed out.

Palm Desert: Elmerald Desert Golf & RV Resort, one of the nicest parks we've ever stayed in. The park has over 900 sites and every amenity you could think of. The golf course is well tended, however the fairways are narrow and one could hit a coach or car fairly easily. The thing we enjoyed most was the sites were concrete, surrounded by grass. Learned something, they keep the grass green all winter by cutting the bermuda grass very short and over-seeding with rye grass. The rye grows when the weather is cool, then when it gets hot the rye dies and the bermuda takes over. That's how they keep the Arizona and Caliornia golf courses so green year around. Pretty Smart! The thing we didn't like was the price, $49. a night, $1400. a month. Update 2007: This park has been sold and will be torn out and a condo project built. Winter 2006 the old part of the park was still open, the new part had been torn out and the project started.
Update 2008: The condo project is not being completed at this time and the partially completed buildings are just sitting there.
Update 2010: The condo project has evidentially been scrapped and the RV park is operating under new ownership. It isn't as large as it once was.
