Arizona

January 2003, 2004 & 2005.............

Quartzsite: On I-10, 20 miles East of the Colorado River. It has a classic low desert climate with low humidity and high summer temperatures. It receives about 4" of rain a year. In 2005 there had been considerably more rain and the desert was green as far as you could see. The Cholla cactus, that is usually just sticks, had leaves and the wild flowers were beautiful. We attended Newmar's annual "rally in the desert" in 2004 & 2005. It's a small town that over 1,000,000 RV's pass through each year. Some stay a few days and some stay the winter. Most camp on BLM land with no hook-ups (power, water or sewer) There is a small fee and you can park in many designated areas. There is a huge flea market called the Main Event. Some vendors sell from the back of their cars, some from beside their motorhomes and some just sleep in the tents they sell from. For three weeks in January there is another area called Tyson Wells, more vendors and a huge tent that covers an acre with more vendors. There is an RV show, a rock and mineral show and a rod and custom show that run one after another. Quartzsite is a must stop place. The desert photos below were taken in 2005, except the second picture down on the left. It's the same road in both photos. We took our Jeep over it one year and then decided to see if the Honda CRV would do it - it went over the mountain just like the jeep - we were pleased. Pictured below are Dean and Laurel with Bob & Jackie Hays.

January 2005 ...........

Seirra Vista: On Highway 90 near the southeast corner of the state by Mexico. It's nestled in the Huachuca Mountains overlooking the San Pedro River Valley. Elevation is 4,623 ft. The town is just outside the entrance to Fort Huachuca where the military museum is a popular place to visit. There are many outdoor places around Sierra Vista, Ramsey Canyon Preserve, Garden Canyon and the San Pedro Riparian National Conservatory are a few. Coronado National Memorial allows visitors an opportunity to hike and drive the area where Coronado searched for the Seven Cities of Gold. It's also close to the Kartchner Caverns.
